در کار دینم مرد مرد عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

وز شغل دنیا فرد فرد عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

In matters of religion, I stand as a steadfast man; intellect demands this.
In worldly affairs, I remain apart; intellect demands this.

تقویست زاد ره مرا علم است چشم و زهد پا

ره شاهراه مصطفی عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

Piety is my provision for the road, knowledge my eye, and detachment my foot;
The path is the royal way of Muṣṭafa; intellect demands this.

دنیا نمیخواهم مگر باشد تنم را ما حضر

تن مر کبستم در سفر عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

I want nothing of this world, except what sustains my body;
The body is but my mount in the journey; intellect demands this.

حرفی نخواهم زد جز آه اسرار می‌دارم نگاه

دارم ز کتمان صد پناه عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

I shall not utter a word but sigh; I guard secrets in silence;
A hundred shelters I keep in concealment; intellect demands this.

صد گون مدارا می‌کنم تا در دلی جا میکنم

دشمن ز سر وا میکنم عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

I practice a hundred forms of forbearance to enter hearts;
I disarm the enemy; intellect demands this.

احکام دین را چاکرم راه مبین را یاورم

بر خویشتن خود داورم عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

I am a servant of religion’s laws, a supporter of the Clear Path;
I am the judge over my own self; intellect demands this.

با اهل علمم گتفگوست و ز سرّ کارم جستجوست

با جاهلانم خلق و خوست عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

With people of knowledge, I am in dialogue, and in the secrets of matters, I am in search;
With the ignorant, I show character and courtesy; intellect demands this.

چون غایت هرره خداست هرره که میپویم ‌رواست

لیکن من و این راه راست عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

Since the goal of every path is God, every path I walk is permitted;
Yet I am on this Straight Path; intellect demands this.

من بعد فیض و عاقلی ترک هوا و جاهلی

فرمانبری بی‌کاهلی عقل این تقاضا می‌کند

Henceforth, having grace and intellect, I abandon desire and ignorance;
I obey without laziness; intellect demands this.
