Mug of Companionship

This verse from Divan-i Shams Tabrizi reflects Rumi’s deep longing for the Divine Beloved, whose "image" becomes an inseparable companion to the hearts of passionate lovers. The poet pleads that this vision never fades, showing his eternal yearning for the divine Presence.  It suggests that true lovers of the Divine are never alone—the Beloved's image remains with them, fueling their yearning and devotion. The implication is a call to spiritual vigilance: to keep the heart’s gaze fixed on the Divine, since even a moment of absence is unbearable. Rumi reminds us that in the fire of love, the only solace is an unbroken connection to the Beloved.

“His image has become the companion of passionate lovers,

May Your Face never vanish for even a moment from our sight.”
